Batumi Airport to Poti is about 80 km and takes roughly 1 hour 20 minutes. The road runs north along the coast through Kobuleti and Ureki, then crosses the flat wetland country at the mouth of the Rioni. Poti is Georgia's main Black Sea port — a working town rather than a resort, laid out around its harbour and the canal that cuts through it. What brings travellers here is usually Kolkheti National Park and Lake Paliastomi on its edge: a landscape of reeds, waterways and migrating birds that looks nothing like the rest of the coast.
Poti is a port, not a beach town — if you want sand and swimming, Ureki is twenty minutes back and far better suited. For Kolkheti National Park, boat trips on Paliastomi are the usual way in and are best arranged in advance; the visitor centre is outside the town. Birdwatching is strongest during spring and autumn migration. The wetland means mosquitoes in summer, so bring repellent. If you are travelling on towards Zugdidi or Svaneti, Poti is roughly on the way and makes a reasonable lunch stop.
| Option | Door-to-door | Price | Time | Luggage / group |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Private transfer (OrbiTrip) | yes | known in advance | about 1 h 20 min | yes — per car, group pays once |
| Taxi (street / app) | yes | metered or negotiated at pick-up | about 1 h 20 min | limited for long routes; luggage space varies |
| Bus / marshrutka | no — station to station | ticket per person | timetable-bound, slower with stops | limited luggage, no seat guarantee |
Third-party options are listed for orientation only — OrbiTrip books private transfers. A per-car transfer is usually the cheapest door-to-door option for 2+ people with luggage; for a solo traveller on a budget the train or marshrutka may cost less.
Your driver tracks the flight and waits in the arrivals hall with a name sign; waiting is free if the flight is delayed. After booking you receive the driver's phone number — call or message on WhatsApp if you cannot find each other. Pay the driver in cash. Payment is cash only, to the driver; no prepayment.
