Tbilisi in Winter: What to Do, Weather and Airport Transfers

Planning Tbilisi in winter? Start with your airport transfer above, then build a city break around the sulfur baths, museums and Old Tbilisi. Keep a separate decision for a mountain day trip: check road conditions before setting off. Choose your travel date and passenger count to compare drivers and prices per car.

Tbilisi in winter weather: plan around the forecast

January is Tbilisi's coldest month in the climate records checked for this guide. A monthly average cannot tell you what will happen on your travel dates. Check the forecast before packing, choose layers, and keep an indoor option for a day you would rather spend out of the weather.

For a short stay, alternate an outdoor visit with a bath or museum. Do not plan a mountain trip on the assumption that city weather describes the road higher up.

Tbilisi winter activities: baths, museums and the cable car

For more detail, see the Abanotubani sulfur-bath guide and Tbilisi city itinerary.

Tbilisi December events: check the announced programme

If celebrations are the reason for your December visit, check the city's announced programme for your travel dates. A previous season's venue or timetable does not confirm the next one. Arrange your arrival transfer separately, so that an event plan can change without leaving your airport journey undecided.

A winter day trip from Tbilisi: Mtskheta or Gudauri?

Mtskheta is a heritage choice: the former capital lies at the confluence of the Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers. Jvari Monastery and Svetitskhoveli Cathedral form part of the UNESCO World Heritage property. Check conditions and visiting information for your day rather than assuming universal winter access.

Gudauri is a mountain choice: the resort is approximately 120 km from Tbilisi according to the tourism and resort sources. This is a geographic guide figure, not a guaranteed driving time or the exact length of your door-to-door trip.

Gudauri–Kobi can close to all vehicles during avalanche danger. Winter tyres are required on designated road sections; police may also require chains. Four-wheel drive does not override restrictions. The cited notices explain the rule; they are not today's road status. Check the current Roads Department and weather notices before a mountain journey.

For a mountain itinerary, continue to the Gudauri and Kazbegi winter transfer guide. It covers a different trip from this city-break guide.

Airport arrival and indicative transfer prices

Indicative starting fares update from our system (historical benchmark checked on 14 October 2026). Choose your date, passengers and car in the search above for an available driver's offer. A minimum fare here does not reserve a car or confirm a future date.

OrbiTrip terms: the price is per car, not per passenger. Pay the driver in cash; there is no prepayment. Cancellation is free. Check the chosen car's seats and luggage capacity before proceeding.

Questions about Tbilisi in winter

What can you do in Tbilisi in winter?

Plan around Abanotubani sulfur baths, the Simon Janashia Museum and National Gallery, and Old Tbilisi. The Rike–Narikala cable car is another option if it is operating; check each venue before visiting.

What is Tbilisi December weather like for a trip?

Check a forecast for your dates instead of relying on one monthly number. January is the coldest month in the checked climate records; keep an indoor option and clothing layers in your plan.

Can I rely on Tbilisi December snow?

This guide does not promise snow for specific dates. Check the current forecast, and verify road conditions separately if you want a mountain trip.

Where can I find Tbilisi December events?

Check the city’s announced programme for your travel dates. Previous-season venues and dates are not confirmation of the coming programme.

Can a transfer always cross Gudauri–Kobi in winter?

No. Avalanche danger can close that section to all vehicles. Winter tyres or four-wheel drive do not override a closure; check the current restrictions before travelling.

Do I need to prepay for an OrbiTrip airport transfer?

No. Pay the driver in cash. The fare is per car, and cancellation is free.
