Georgia Transfer Price Index 2026: The Real Cost of Getting Around Georgia

As of October 2026, the average cost of a private inter-city transfer in the OrbiTrip sample is about 2.03 GEL (~$0.78) per km for the whole car (roughly 0.68 GEL (~$0.26) per km per person when three share a sedan) — the distance-weighted average across the 14 domestic fixed-price routes below.

How much does it really cost to get around Georgia in 2026? OrbiTrip operates fixed-price private transfers on more than twenty inter-city routes, which gives us an unusually clean platform dataset on the cost of our ground travel services across the country. In this study we turn that data into a simple price index: the average cost per kilometre, the cheapest and most expensive routes, an airport-by-airport comparison, and how a private car stacks up against the marshrutka and the train. Private-transfer figures are 2026 fixed per-car reference prices; public-transport fares are historical values shown by the original study. Journalists and travel writers are welcome to cite these findings with a link to OrbiTrip. The index describes OrbiTrip’s own route sample; it is not an independent survey of all transfer operators in Georgia.

Note (updated 2026-10-21): routes that physically cross a state border out of Georgia are priced as cross-border trips (border waiting, paperwork and the same driver all the way). Their per-km figures therefore sit above the domestic trend line and should not be read as the domestic price model.

Methodology (source-declared snapshot: 2026-10-21): the headline 2.03 GEL (~$0.78)/km is distance-weighted (total fare ÷ total km) over the 14 domestic routes above, attributed by the source study to the OrbiTrip price engine v4 (progressive per-km curve + terrain multipliers, described in the source as live since 27 Aug 2026). The median per-km for intercity routes of 50 km and more is 2.23 GEL (~$0.86)/km. Short hops (under 50 km) are minimum-fare transfers — for example 54–75 GEL (~$21-29) from the Tbilisi or Batumi airports to their own city — so their per-km figure is structurally higher; they are shown separately in section 2. USD equivalents for per-kilometre figures use the site exchange rate dated 29 October 2026, USD 1 = GEL 2.6055, rounded to the nearest cent; the GEL figures are the OrbiTrip pricing engine’s sedan from-prices on the snapshot date.

This study uses the transfer-price snapshot labelled 2026-10-21 on this page: the distance-weighted average uses the 14 domestic routes above; airport routes are shown separately. Each transfer price is the total for the whole vehicle (based on a sedan for up to three passengers), calculated from real driving distance on a progressive per-kilometre curve with terrain multipliers (mountain, Svaneti), and paid directly to the licensed driver — OrbiTrip is a booking platform. Marshrutka and second-class rail fares are historical reference values from the original study; they have not been independently revalidated as current, service-specific fares. Figures are indicative one-way prices in Georgian lari (GEL); The original study used the approximate convention 1 EUR ≈ 3.0 GEL.
