What is the weather like in Georgia in November?
November marks the shift from autumn to winter in Georgia, and temperatures start to drop in many regions. The country is small, but its weather is not uniform: within a few hours’ drive you can go from a mild city day to proper winter conditions in the mountains or steady rain on the coast. That is why we recommend planning November by region rather than by a single forecast.
In Tbilisi, long-term averages put daytime highs in the low-to-mid teens: Weather2Travel gives about 12°C, Jacada Travel about 14°C. Evenings are noticeably colder, so a warm jacket matters more than in October. Days are short, and the light is soft and golden when the sun comes out, which suits walking through the Old Town and the hills above it.
| Region | November pattern | What we suggest |
|---|---|---|
| Tbilisi | Cool days (about 12–14°C), cold evenings | City walks, museums, sulfur baths, food and wine |
| Kakheti | Harvest finished, quiet vineyards | A booked winery visit and tasting |
| Mestia and Svaneti | Winter arrives early, daytime highs near freezing | Only with a flexible plan and current road advice |
| Gudauri and Kazbegi | Wintry; ski season not yet open | A weather-dependent day trip, not a ski holiday |
| Batumi and the coast | The wettest month in Batumi | Indoor sights and a rain-friendly plan |
Where to go in Georgia in November
Tbilisi. The capital is the easiest and most rewarding base in November. It is the part of the country least affected by the change of season, and most of what makes it special is either outdoors and walkable on a dry day or indoors when it is not: museums, galleries, the warm sulfur baths of Abanotubani, and long Georgian dinners. Our Tbilisi sulfur baths guide explains how the bathhouses work, a perfect plan for a cold evening.
Kakheti. The rtveli grape harvest normally takes place in September and October, so by November the picking is over and the vineyards are quiet. That is not a reason to skip wine country. Many wineries continue to receive guests for cellar visits and tastings, and without harvest crowds the visit can feel more personal. Book the winery in advance, confirm what the visit includes, and keep the day unhurried.
The mountains. Winter arrives early in Georgia’s mountain regions. In Mestia, long-term averages give a November daytime high of only about 1°C, and snow can start to fall. Kazbegi and Gudauri are wintry too, but the Gudauri ski season does not begin until December. A mountain day trip from Tbilisi can still be beautiful in clear weather; we recommend treating it as optional and deciding the day before, based on the forecast and road conditions.
Batumi and the Black Sea coast. The coast stays relatively mild, but it becomes very rainy, and November is the wettest month of the year in Batumi. If you go, plan around indoor sights, cafes and seafront walks between showers rather than a beach stay. Our Batumi in winter guide covers what works on the coast in the cold season.
St George’s Day (Giorgoba) on 23 November
Saint George is the patron saint of Georgia, and Georgians commemorate him twice a year, on 6 May and 23 November. Only the November date, Giorgoba, is an official public holiday. Churches hold services, and many families mark the day together. For travellers this mostly means two practical things: expect busier churches on the day, and check opening hours of offices and some services in advance, as they may close for the holiday.
If you visit a church on Giorgoba, dress modestly (covered shoulders and knees; women usually cover their hair) and keep a respectful distance from services in progress. It is a good day to see Georgian religious life as it really is.
How to get around in November
Short daylight and changeable weather make flexible transport especially useful in November. A private car with driver lets you change the order of your day trips at short notice, for example swapping a mountain day for Kakheti if snow is forecast, without moving your luggage or adjusting a fixed tour.
For wine country, Telavi is a convenient starting point: send your driver the exact address of the winery when you book, and agree any stops on the way. See live prices for your date on this page; the price is shown per vehicle before you book.
