Borjomi in Winter: Central Park, Sulfur Pools, Likani and the Road to Bakuriani
Borjomi in winter: what to expect
Borjomi lies at about 800 m in a forested valley; Bakuriani, the ski resort above it, is at about 1,700 m. Winter roads in the mountains are slower than in summer: travel with winter tyres and a driver who is used to winter mountain conditions, allow extra time and check for temporary restrictions after heavy snow.
Borjomi Central Park in winter
- The park dates from the 1850s and follows the Borjomula River through a wooded valley.
- The Ekaterina spring: visitors can taste warm Borjomi mineral water at the park pavilion, and the water is free to sample.
- Tickets and hours: entry is reported at 5 GEL, and free before 09:00; published guides list the park as open 06:00–20:00 — confirm the current winter hours when you arrive.
Borjomi sulfur pools in winter
A riverside trail beyond the Central Park leads to outdoor, spring-fed sulfur pools with warm water. They are described as a year-round attraction, including in winter — check on the spot that they are operating and what the entry costs.
Likani, the Romanov palace and the national park
Likani is a spa area at the western end of Borjomi with mineral springs, old oaks and conifer groves. The Likani (Romanov) Palace was completed in 1895 to a design by Leon Benois as a summer residence for Grand Duke Nicholas Mikhailovich. Likani is also an entry point to Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park; winter walking routes exist, so choose one that suits the snow and your experience.
